The Saint Mary Romanian Orthodox Church of Chicago, known also as The Falling Asleep of the Ever-Virgin Mary, is the first Romanian Orthodox Church in the Chicago area, established in 1911. This Church has the main feast and the protector on August 15- The Virgin Mary, Mother of God.
The first Romanian immigrants settled in this blessed city, bringing from the Motherland-ROMANIA- the great gift of Orthodoxy. This Parish incorporates all Orthodox, old and new, inviting everyone (Romanians or Americans) to life their lives in the spirit of love, worshiping One God in
Holy Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, through the Resurrected Lord, Jesus Christ.
We invite you to visit us. We hope that you will find a Church with a lot of history, memories to share, future to look forward to, and present to enjoy with the brothers and sisters in Christ.
Even though our Parish is the oldest in the City, this Community found the secret of Life: the love and harmony between generations. Thus you will come looking for old, will find and hear the hundreds of children’s voices in Sunday School! Glory be to God for everything!
